how is Guilin Park Hotel, Guilin

by moyang ·

Got in a cab and asked the driver to take me to a hotel. Staff was friendly and helpful they booked me a hotel at my next destination which also turned out to be great. Guilin is a nice city but watch out everyone is trying to get a hand on your money.

one block to the river and 10 minute walk to the night market, friendly, helpful staff. The rooms were clean, up to date, did not use the retaurant .

About Guilin China

by moyang ·

GUILIN has been famous since Tang times for its scenic location among a host of gnarled, two-hundred-metre-high rocky hills on the Li River, down which you can cruise to the village of Yangshuo. Despite being prone to tourist-driven inflation and hard-sell irritations, the city is an attractive place to spend a day while organizing a cruise downstream, with plenty of well-designed landscaping, shady avenues and rocky parkland.

Look at a map and Guilin’s medieval city layout is still clearly visible, defined by the River Li to the east. The two tree-lined lakes of Rong Hu and Shan Hu originally formed a moat surrounding the inner city walls – the last remnant of which is Gu Nanmen, the tunnel-like Old South Gate – and are now crossed by attractively hunchbacked stone bridges. Shan Hu is also overlooked by forty-metre-tall twin pagodas named Riyue Shuang Ta, one of which is painted gold, the other muted red and green, both attractively illuminated at night. Guilin’s riverside promenade is Binjiang Lu, shaded from the summer sun by the fragrant osmanthus trees after which the city is named (Guilin means “osmanthus forest”).

Travel in DPRK as American?

by moyang ·

So I am studying abroad in China, and on the website it was talking about how some of the railways run through North Korea, and you are subjected to DPRK laws when you are in the borders. Also, it talked about how as an American to travel into DPRK you have to go to China and arrange a North Korean Visa, and any other affairs in the country is to be dealt with at the Swedish Embassy due to America’s lack of recognition of DPRK.

So I was realizing, i thought it was a LOT harder to get through North Korean borders than to arrange a Visa through China and train it in. So…assuming I keep my mouth shut in NK, would it be worth it just to say I had been?

Traveling to China from U.S. Passport Question.?

by moyang ·

I posted a question similar to this yesterday but forgot to ask this important part. We both have had U.S. passports in the past , but I was only 8 years old back then.. I’m now 35. So the 90 day passport validity requirement for China, does that mean from ONLY a currently valid passport? Or could it go off of the one that I had since I was 8 years old ? (validity wise) Since I did have a passport back then.

Basically i’m asking if my passport was approved / renewed tomorrow….could I go to china tomorrow..since I already had a valid passport some 25 years ago ?

Forget about you passport from 25 years ago. That passport is no longer valid and hence is meaningless.

You must apply for a new passport from the U.S. Department of State. A valid passport is necessary for international travel. Use the attached weblink to identify your nearest passport application center.

You will also need to apply for a Chinese visa in order to enter China. You must present a valid passport with your application to obtain a visa from the Chinese consulate.

If i’m going to visit korea

by moyang ·

i’m from canada and i wanna visit korea
where is the nicest place to go?and what is the best hotel in that place?
how long am i allowed to stay there if im canadian citizen?

Depends what you want.

Hondae near HongIK university is the party area, lots of bars clubs etc..

Avoid Itaewon as it is sleazier (it has a place called Hooker hill) is crammed full of arrogant loud mouth jerks. Military police and it isn’t nice.

Avoid Sincheon on the edge of Hongdae you’ll notice lots of nicely dressed women walking around you can probably guess what they are. Saturdays you’ll see 1000s of riot cops too.

The best hotel is the Park Hyatt which is opposite the palace in nearby city hall. But I don’t like staying in hotels, be wary that many small hotels are actually love hotels where people go to have sex. The other hotels around are generally not so great they are cheap but in dodgy areas, usually near a pink light district of some kind.

You’ll get stamped in for 90 days.

There are two good hostels however in Seoul, guysanddolls.kr run by park and young it is excellent and cheap and they will take you out to have fun.

Kim’s is full of arrogant americans who teach english and complain constantly Kim isn’t a very good host.

Namsan hostel at the foot of Namsan park is nice you can walk to the night market it has a more grown up crowd around there but it is often full.

While visiting London, what should I be aware of

by moyang ·

I am not curious about tourist attractions, etc. But what would be the most important thing(s) to acknowledge? Also, if you have traveled there, what is/was your experience like?

Thank you.
