what to eat in chengdu?Good restaurants in Chengdu

by moyang ·

Sichuan cuisine specializes in chili and hot pepper, and is best known for its aromatic and spicy sauces. The food often arrives glistening under a layer of bright red chili oil. Locals explain that chilies are warming in winter and cooling in summer, and, according to Chinese medicine, dispel “wet” illnesses brought on by damp or humid conditions.

Emeishan Mountain travel

by moyang ·

Although Emeishan is still hugely popular with pilgrims, the mountain is equally famous for its spectacular scenery. The word “Emei” in Chinese means “Eyebrows of beauty” and locals believe that the peaks of Emei resemble the eyebrows of a woman! Towering 3099 meters high, Emei is the highest of China. Ermeishan Mountain is situated in the city of Ermeishan, which is 160kms to the southwest Ermeishan city and 37 km from Leshan City.

Emeishan is one of China’s four sacred Buddhist Mountains and has been a popular place of pilgrimage for the past 1800 years. The mountain stretches more than 200 kilometers from south to north. Its main peak, Wanfo Top, is 3,099 meters above sea level. Since ancient times Emei Mountain has been described as “Beauty under Heaven.” Temples were built as early as the Eastern Han Dynasty (24-220) and Buddhism was introduced to the mountain during the Jin Dynasty. In the Ming and Qing dynasties there were more than 150 temples. A legend claims that the mountain was where Samantabhadra gave lectures on Buddhism and most temples house a statue of Samantabhadra. The main scenic spots on the mountain include the Baoguo Temple, Wannian Temple, Fohu Temple, Qingyin Pavilion, Heilongjiang Tunnel, Hongchun Platform, Xianfeng Temple (Jiulao Cave), Xixiang Pond and Golden Summit. These places are at different altitudes and have different climates. Temperatures at the top of mountain are 15 degrees lower than at the foot. The mountain, which supports more than 3,000 varieties of plants and many animals, is an important scenic area.

In this mountain, the natural scene and its long history melt together and assist each other. It has become the object of people to sing for. As the natural heritage, Ermeishan Mountain owns the typical vegetation form, which can assist the studies on world biota. In addition, its special geologic feature is the proof of biogenic derivation. As the cultural heritage, Ermeishan Mountain possesses the relics of Buddhism culture. Leshan Buddha is the most important one even in the world, which was built in the 8th century, 71-meter high. It took 90 years to finish this project. In 1996, it was ranked in “the world Cultural & Natural Heritage” by UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization).

Base of Giant Panda,Travel to chengdu to see Panda

by moyang ·

The giant panda is beloved by people from all over the world. It is a symbol of world biodiversity, conservation, peace and friendship. The giant panda is also nature’s gift to Chengdu and the province of Sichuan. It is a special and highly valued resource in Chengdu. All local and foreign visitors enjoy the beauty of giant pandas. They are also deeply concerned with the current status and future of giant pandas.

The Chengdu Municipal Government decided to establish the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding in March 1987. Leaders of the Central Government, Provincial Government, and Municipal Government, as well as people from foreign countries, have all contributed to building the Research Base. The Research Base was built by the Chengdu Garden Bureau.

The Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding in Chengdu is located about 10km from the Chengdu downtown area; the Research Base was built to imitate the wild ecological environment of pandas. It covers 600 acres in area with a green coverage of 96 percent. The base created a perfect ecological environment for the living and breeding of pandas and other precious and rare wild animals. It breeds 23 pandas and lesser pandas, which is about one-third of the entire captive giant panda population in the world. Most of the giant pandas at the Base stay individually in the captive cages, which are in fact large enclosures, each consists of an in-door room and an out-door courtyard. The semi-nature enclosures are very large wild areas but protected by border fences. Those giant pandas that will soon be released back to the wild will be put in the semi-nature enclosures for a long enough period of time for them to adapt to the natural environment. The Research Base also houses black-necked cranes, white storks, 14 species of bamboo, and 300 other plant species. Ninety species of birds also inhabit the area. Giant pandas at the Chengdu Research Base live in large naturalistic habitats, which help the visitor to understand how these animals live in the wild. It is an excellent recreational area and a highlight of any visit to Chengdu.

The Research Base is one of the important centers in China for the captive conservation of giant pandas. The current goal is to increase the captive population of giant pandas. The ultimate goal is to reintroduce giant pandas to the wild. To achieve this goal certain pandas will be raised in such a way as to provide them with the necessary skills to survive in the wild. Reintroduction of captive animals to the wild will both increase the number of individuals and the genetic diversity of the wild population. The Research Base hopes to help ensure the survival of giant pandas and increase the chances for giant pandas to coexist with humankind.

The construction of the Research Base and its achievements exemplify the Chinese government’s high level of concern, goals and willingness to take responsibility for environmental protection. The Research Base also represents China’s highest goals for conservation and wildlife management. The Chinese government’s promise to the international society, when it signed a contract to conserve biodiversity, has been partially fulfilled with the construction of the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding. The Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding promotes Chengdu’s captive population.

what is the weather like in Chengdu?

by moyang ·

The best time to visit is between March and June or between September and November. The hottest season here is during July and August when temperatures can be almost unbearable although Chengdu does have a few nice spots (such as Qingchengshan Mountain) outside the city center where it is possible to get some shade and respite from the heat. This is also however the rainy season and it is awkward juggling the two types of weather at once! In summer the heat is wet with a high temperature of 35 degrees C and in winter, the average temperature is approximately 5 degrees C.

China Baoxin travel guide, pandas travel guide

by moyang ·

Baoxin County is well known as the homeland for the giant pandas. In 1869 the world’s first panda was discovered here in Denggou Valley of Baoxin County. A French priest Armand David made it into specimen. The world was astonished when it was first exhibited in Paris. From then on the giant panda has been taken as a lovely good-natured vegetarian animal. With the increasing cultural exchanges between China and the outside world, the giant panda is almost taken as the symbol of Chinese culture. There have been some pandas stepped out of China. About 150 of them were from Baoxin. People all love pandas. Therefore the panda was chosen as the Mascot for the 23rd Olympic Games in Los Angeles and the 8th Asian Games in Beijing.

In 1979 Fengtongzai Giant Panda Reserve was founded in Baoxi which covers an area of 40,000 hectares. The pandas are kept in a feed lot with semi-wild environment. People can see the pandas living here in their natural condition. Since the pandas are kept with semi-wild environment, they live peacefully with people. Occasionally there are pandas visiting homes of local people. There are thousands of plants grown here, and 300 different kind of animals such as golden monkeys and antelopes live in the same habitat.
